Relationships between labor and management need to be developed and nurtured. Preventing disputes between unions and management is worth far more than resolving a dispute after the fact. Building mechanisms into your relationship and the collective bargaining agreement using a labor-management council is an important step.
A labor-management council would:
- Meet periodically (monthly/bi-monthly/quarterly) to discuss any outstanding issues and upcoming concerns
- Resolve or prevent disputes before they become one
- Helps to maintain or develop relationship between the union and management
- Could be considered confidential (and possibly privileged) with party consent
- Meetings would use a QADRE mediator to facilitate discussions and resolve pending issues
